It is set in the reigns of Shaka and Dingane and tells the story of Jeqe, a youth who rises to became a close attendant of Shaka’s. The translation appears to be based on the expanded edition of Insila ka Tshaka.]

Archival History

[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: Largely written by J.L. Dube in isiZulu before 1930 but edited to include new material introduced sometime before 1940. Translated into English from isiZulu by J.D. Boxwell sometime between 1946 and 1951. The translation was published in 1951 by Lovedale Press under the English title Jeqe the Body-Servant of King Tshaka. A copy was acquired by UCT Libraries at an unknown date. The copy was loaned out and digitised by FHYA in 2020. It was Uploaded by Benathi Marufu for FHYA in 2022.]
