Scope and Content
[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: A paper by Andrew Manson submitted for the Mfecane Aftermath conference held at University of the Witwatersrand in September in 1991. The paper argued that pressures emanating from the western Highveld region should not be overlooked when considering explanations for transformations in African society during the period of the Difaqane. He argued for a broader perspective of the period that is neither Eurocentric nor Afrocentric.]

Copies were printed and distributed for the conference's attendees, including Jan-Bart Gewald. The paper remained in Gewald's possession after the conference. C. 2014, he donated it along with all of the other Mfecane Aftermath conference papers to Leiden University Library.
