Scope and Content
[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: A paper by Alan Webster submitted for the Mfecane Aftermath conference held at University of the Witwatersrand in September in 1991. The paper supports Julian Cobbing's 'alibi' argument by claiming that the British-Xhosa war fought in 1835 was a cover-up engineered to conceal what was actually a slave raid.]

[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: Written by Alan Webster ahead of the Mfecane Aftermath conference in September 1991. Copies were printed and distributed for the conference's attendees, including Jan-Bart Gewald. The paper remained in Gewald's possession after the conference. C. 2014, he donated it along with all of the other Mfecane Aftermath conference papers to Leiden University Library. In 2021, Gewald's deposit of Mfecane Aftermath conference papers was uncovered by Ettore Morelli of FHYA. Following a request by FHYA, the papers were digitised by Leiden University Libraries for use in the FHYA's Spotlight on the Mfecane presentation. Uploaded by Benathi Marufu for EMANDULO in September 2021.]
