The book tells a fictional story and draws on the history of the Zulu kingdom to do so. It is set in the reigns of Shaka and Dingane and tells the story of Jeqe, a youth who rises to became a close attendant of Shaka's.]

This book was lost following the fire at UCT Libraries in April 2021.
[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: Written by J.L. Dube before 1930. This edition of the book was published in 1931. There is no information about who published this edition. A copy was acquired by the ethnologist G.P Lestrade at an unknown date. It was then bequeathed by Lestrade to UCT Libraries in 1963 following his death the previous year. The copy was loaned out and digitised by FHYA in 2021. It was uploaded by Benathi Marufu for FHYA in 2021.]
