Attributions and conjectures [Source - Chloe Rushovich for FHYA, 2020, using materials provided by Gavin Whitelaw: This permit, per/1/68, was for “archaeological excavations and removal of material at Shongweni cave on right bank of Umlaas river”. It was granted to Oliver Davies on 6 May 1971, and lapsed 31 December 1972. Davies was earlier granted a reconnaissance permit, per/1/45 limited to Zululand, Natal and East Griqualand, which was granted 17 July 1970, and lapsed 31 December 1973, subject to renewal. This permit is related to later permits obtained by Davies, all under the same permit number.]
