Scope and Content
[Source - Benathi Marufu for FHYA, 2023: USamson, the first novel in isiXhosa, was written by S.E.K. Mqhayi and published in 1907. It is said to be an adaptation of the biblical story of Samson. In this novel, Mqhayi used a biblical narrative to portray the political realities of black South Africans whilst avoiding censorship for the underlying political message. There is no known copy of this book still in existence.]
