Description [Source - Debra Pryor for FHYA, 2022, using spreadsheet created by Nessa Leibhammer for SAHRIS, from JAG materials in 2015: Object description: Roughly rectangular crossbar but flaring at narrow ends, curved and undecorated. It has a pronounced slope from the back down to the front. Lugs are roughly rectangular and facing front. Two rectangular pillars blackened on sides and joined at to and bottom bt small closed half cylinders. Base is two flat linked circles of unequal size. The whole headrest is roughly and unevenly carved. Object form type: Headrest; Object material type: Wood; Technique: Carved; Colours: Brown; Object age: late 19th/early 20th century; Production place: Transvaal (now Limpopo Province); Cultural association: Transvaal Tsonga; Place of use: Transvaal (now Limpopo Province); Provenance: Collected at Elim, Transvaal c1930.]
