Description [Source - Debra Pryor for FHYA, 2022, using spreadsheet created by Nessa Leibhammer for SAHRIS, from JAG materials in 2015: Object description: Rectangular crossbar but flaring slightly at the ends. Curved and decorated near the narrow ends with a row of zig-zag carved in relief. Lugs are flat semi circles facing front. Columns are two rectangular pillars, each having a blackened open arch on the outside, and being decorated with a blackened vertical row of rectangles carved in relief front and back. A piece of the base is missing but it was porbably originally two flat linked spade shapes. Object form type: Headrest; Object material type: Wood; Technique: Carved; Colours: Brown; Object age: late 19th/early 20th century; Production place: Transvaal (now Limpopo Province); Cultural association: Transvaal Tsonga; Place of use: Transvaal (now Limpopo Province); Provenance: Collected at Elim, Transvaal c1930.]
