Description [Source - Debra Pryor for FHYA, 2022, using spreadsheet created by Nessa Leibhammer for SAHRIS, from JAG materials in 2015: Object description: Cylindrical finial with flattened sides. The central section circumference is covered with two raised panels of carved amasumpa designs. In the space between these 'nipple' projects to the front of the finial and a truncated cone projects from the back. There were originally two but one has broken off. Object form type: staff; Object material type: red pigment, wood; Technique: Carving, pokerwork; Colours: Red, brown; Dimension comment: 79,2 x 6,5 x 8; Object age: 19th to early 20th century; Production place: KwaZulu-Natal; Cultural association: Northern Nguni (Zulu); Place of use: KwaZulu-Natal; Provenance: Meret Simpson, New York.]
