Scope and Content

[Source - Henry Fagan for EMANDULO, 2021: A paper by Elizabeth Eldredge submitted for the Mfecane Aftermath conference held at University of the Witwatersrand in September in 1991. The paper argues that Julian Cobbing's assertions of slavery stemming from Delagoa Bay are inadequate, but that he was correct to recognise slaving across the Cape Colony Frontier as a significant factor in the unrest in Eastern Cape region. Eldredge further argued that Jeff Guy's ecological argument was misleading given it examined stock-keeping but not arable land. Eldredge concluded that the Mfecane was caused by an interplay of intensifying economic and ecological factors.]

C. 2014, he donated it along with all of the other Mfecane Aftermath conference papers to Leiden University Library. In 2021, Gewald's deposit of Mfecane Aftermath conference papers was uncovered by Ettore Morelli of FHYA.
