[Source - Nessa Leibhammer for FHYA, 2018, using information from an article called 'Street of a past that foretold a future' in the Mail and Guardian, Johannesburg, 10 August 2012: Mordechai Brodie was born in South Africa. He has a degree in Philosophy and has studied the Kabbalah and Rabbinical law in Israel. He has also trained in ceramics production.
In 1983/4 he opened a shop called African Magic in Rockey Street, Yeoville, Johannesburg that carried a wide range of objects from Africa with a main focus on southern Africa. He travelled extensively in the region collecting and documenting objects and has sold comprehensive collections of material objects from southern Africa to local galleries such as the Johannesburg Art Gallery and the Wits Art Museum as well as internationally. African Magic closed its doors around 1993/4.
Brodie has written a number of articles on southern African traditionalist culture including initiation practises. He no longer deals in African art and is a teacher and psychotherapist based in Knysna and Cape Town.]
